İZTUZU BEACH SEA TURTLE MAINTENANCE STATION AND DAILY DESIGN AREA PROJECT

  • Location:Turkey/Muğla
  • Year:2019
  • Project Status:Idea
  • Built Area:1500 m²

Location and Location

İztuzu Beach Sea Turtles Maintenance Station and Daily Design Area Idea Competition region; It is surrounded by mountainous and forested areas to the south, Iztuzu beach and the Mediterranean Sea to the west and İztuzu Lake to the north. Although there are some structures of the Sea Turtles Research, Rescue and Rehabilitation Center (DEKAMER) in the area, it has difficulty in meeting the necessary needs. In addition to meeting the needs of DEKAMER, it is aimed to make the visitors feel that they can be a whole in harmony with nature. It was designed without harm to nature and aimed at an integration based on the mutual benefit relationship with it.

Tissue

The design area is located in İztuzu beach area, which is considered one of the rare areas of the world. There are single storey prefabricated buildings on the beach to meet daily needs. Similarly, the area where DEKAMER is located consists of single storey prefabricated foundations and tent-like structures. The competition area and its surroundings have a unique natural environment and texture. It is surrounded by pine forest and has a beautiful beach. The project aims to bring together the landscape and nature in the best way with a structure located towards the Iztuzu Lake which is the direction of the dominant landscape.

Context

Within the natural beauty that constitutes the identity of the geography of the design area, the existence of a building culture that produces sustainable and negative carbon footprints and can adapt to changing needs has been tried to be established. The adaptation of nature to changes and its continuous change has been our main source of inspiration. The project had to take on a mobile and evolving identity to meet the needs of the climate, natural habitat and constantly changing people. Thus, it is aimed to adapt easily to changes over time and to be able to develop according to needs.

positioning

Instead of an architecture that spans the entire area, an architectural approach that combines landscape and natural beauty in the gaps opened by nature is the bel. The structure was lifted on the legs to create minimum footprint and construction. The project has established maximum interaction with water and environment by turning to and settling on the İztuzu Lake.

Project Purpose

The project is located on the Iztuzu Lake border. Considering the fact that it is located in a wooded area, the structure was lifted on the legs and positioned towards İztuzu Lake. The buildings, which are raised on the legs with a light steel structure, are made up of prefabricated modules. These modules combine to form more complex spaces. The most important feature of the project is the top cover which provides shade for open spaces when moving on the rail. This top cover can be folded and opened like an accordion to adapt to the weather and climate conditions. Furthermore, thanks to the motorized pulley system fixed on the top cover, prefabricated modules can be moved and make the structure dynamic. Each module has the potential to be connected to the accordion system with steel ropes and placed in different locations. In this way, mobile mass organizations can be obtained. Thanks to this system, modules can be positioned in different ways for winter and summer conditions. In addition, the project can be expanded by adding additional modules for a new need in the future. Two plan schemes for the summer and winter periods were proposed in the project. In addition, entries can be made from different points according to different plan schemes and according to the requests of the users. Thanks to the upper cover is movable, it can secure the structure by closing the entrance if necessary.

The accordion system can change the façade of each module between 3 types of facades as open, semi-open and closed facades. In this way, it provides a changeable façade system that meets the need. In addition, if two or more modules come together to define larger spaces, the remaining walls are demontable and can be removed and stored in the warehouse by the accordion system. The structure is constructed in a linear scheme and the relationship with the lake is taken into consideration. At the finalization of the structure, the console platform and navigation area were defined and a social space related to the lake was targeted. In addition, by defining certain areas of the modular flooring system as closed and open, it is aimed to protect the existing trees and add richness to the design. Since the project consists of 5x5 meter effective modules, natural ventilation can easily be provided. Solar panels are installed on the roofs of the modules and the electricity generated will be stored and used according to the needs. In addition, rainwater collection tanks were built on the roof. The gray water collected here will be transported to the main reservoir by the pipeline underneath the structure and made available here. In this way, the system that requires a minimum level of external energy is targeted. In the project, connection points of all installations (clean water, waste water, electricity, internet, rain water) were left on each axis and at each module level. In this way, the modules can be connected to the installation line underneath them in case of displacement and serve without any problems.
